Using 100% biodiesel

There are two considerations for people who want to use 100% biodiesel in Coastal North Queensland.

1. Natural rubber seals in the fuel system will need to be changed to synthetic rubber as biodiesel will perish these. For engines equipped to run on low sulphur diesel, this work has already been done.

2. reeFUEL biodiesel will clean your fuel system. It is possible that accumulated waxes in the fuel system will come free and be stopped by the fuel filter. When first using 100% you may need to change your fuel filter to remove this material.


Shown left is the 230kVA Komatsu 155 Series 2 six cylinder turbo-charged diesel generator running on 100% biodiesel in the PacRim yard, Bohle.

Also running on 100% biodiesel is a 500 kVA generator powered by a V12 600hp turbocharged Caterpillar 3412 diesel.

Since the biodiesel went in to the caterpiller, the oil pressure has dropped to its proper level and the exhaust burns clean. Before the biodiesel went in the generator had high oil pressure and black exhaust.

Here is Townville's first 100% biodiesel powered bus trial. Operated by the Hermit Park Bus Service (HPBS), the bus runs a six cylinder 1977 Volvo 10 litre engine. The bus is used for school runs. According to the California Coalition on Clean Air, in their report, No Breathing in the Aisles, children riding in school buses powered by diesel engines are exposed to up to 4 tmes as much toxic diesel fumes as someone riding in a car ahead of it. Biodiesel is a natural fuel and can assist to improve air quality.

Here is Paul from Townsville Minidiggers with his 100% biodiesel powered Dingo K950 running a Kabota 3 cylinder diesel and the 1999 Mitsubishi Canter with a 4D33 diesel engine. Paul says that when the diodiesel went into the minidigger, he experienced a significant pick up in power and all the diesel exhaust smell went away. Plus the truck runs like a dream on the biodiesel.
