reeFUEL biodiesel is made through a simple process where oils and alcohol are mixed together with a catalyst. This produces biodiesel (referred to as monoesters) and glycerine. The process is simple and the technology is very advanced. Biodiesel can thus be produced in large scale commercial facilities (and even in the back yard).

Biodiesel is made by mixing and heating the three principle ingredients:

* natural oils including:

  • tallow
  • waste cooking oil
  • cotton seed oil
  • mustard seed oil
  • soybean oil

* alcohol (ethanol or methanol);

* reagent (eg potassium hydroxide).

A chemical reaction know as transesterification takes place during the mix. In this reaction, glycerine is stripped from the oil. The glycerine is removed, leaving monoesters - the biodiesel.

reeFUEL biodiesel is primarily made from waste cooking oil.
